Flammulated Owl (Otus flammeolus), Mesa, Maricopa County

This Flammulated Owl was discovered and photographed by Lisa Fetter on 17 October 2009 in her backyard in Mesa.

Flammulated is a migratory owl and is a common summer resident in pine-oak woodland. There are very few records of it during migration from the lowlands of Arizona, although it is unknown how many silent migratory owls go through undetected.

Small owl with dark eyes and ear tufts.
