Heermann's Gull (Larus heermanni), Lakeside Park, Tucson, Pima County

This Heermann's Gull was discovered by John Higgins and photographed by Chris Benesh on 21 June 2011.

Heermann's Gull is a casual visitant to Arizona from the Gulf of California and occurs nearly year round, but most records from late fall. Although there are more than 35 records of Heermann's Gull in Arizona, it is the most notorious "one day wonder" and none has ever stayed in one location for more than a day.

Unmistakable in adult plumage.  Apparently just beginning its fourth prebasic molt with newly replaced inner primaries.
