Pacific Wren (Troglodytes pacificus), Pine Creek Canyon, Gila County

This Western Winter Wren was photographed by Brian Ison on 24 November 2011

Rare, but regular winter visitor to the state. While Pacific Wrens are sparse, local breeders along the Mogollon Rim, it is unknown if these birds are year-round residents.

Rich ochre-brown coloration overall (including throat) and lack of white spotting on wings and back indicated Pacific Wren. Best separated by call note. This bird gave the call similar to a Wilson's Warbler chip indicating Pacific.
