Flammulated Owl (Psiloscops flammeolus), Tinajas Altas Mountains, Yuma County

This Flammulated Owl was photographed by Lin Piest on 29 April 2015

Flammulated is a migratory owl and is a common summer resident in pine-oak woodland. There are very few records of it during migration from the lowlands or desert mountains of Arizona, although it is unknown how many silent migratory owls go through undetected. This may be the first report from Yuma County.

Similar to Western Screech-Owl, but with dark eyes and some distinct rufous coloration in the plumage.
