Brant (Branta bernicla), Glendale Recharge Ponds, Maricopa County

This Brant was found and photographed by Melanie Herring on 25 November 2017

Brant is usually strictly coastal and confined to salt water. It is very rare in Arizona with only 16 accepted records and one pending. There is one prior fall record, also from November.

Fairly distinct if seen well. White neck marking is diagnostic. The amount of white on the neck as well as the black underparts indicate this is the expected "Black" Brant.
