Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor), Lake Saint Clair, Pinal County

This Tricolored Heron was found by Keith Kamper and Doug Jenness and photographed by Keith Kamper on 21 August 2019

Tricolored Heron is a casual visitor to Arizona, most frequent in summer. Apparently the first in Pinal County since 1979.

Contrast between dark upperparts and white throat and belly at all ages is unique among North American herons. Also note the relatively long bill.
