Red Phalarope (Phalaropus fulicarius), Yuma East Wetlands, Yuma County

This Red Phalarope was found and photographed by Henry Detwiler on 20 May 2020

Red Phalaropes are casual transients in Arizona. Although they have occurred in nearly every month of the year, they are mostly found in the late fall and early winter.

Distinctive with rufous body, black crown and face, white cheek, and buffy edges to the upperparts.
