Upland Sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda), Marana, Pima County

This Upland Sandpiper was found and photographed by Janine McCabe on 20 August 2020 and photographed by Michael Skinner on 20 August 2020

One of two found together.

Casual in fall (mainly mid August to mid September) with 13 prior records for the state, with another report from this fall pending.

Upland Sandpiper has a very distinctive shape with small head, large eyes, thin neck and long tail. Pale face, white belly, and yellow legs are also distinctive. In these flight shots also note the pale innner wing contrasting with the dark outer wing and the distinctive white outer primary shaft.
