Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres), John Lake Playa, Coconino County

This Ruddy Turnstone was first discovered and reported by William & Beth Clark on 26 August 2021 and photographed by Jason Wilder the same day.

This casual fall transient in Arizona was formerly more regular; there are fewer than 10 accepted records since being placed back on the review list in 2007. This is a first record for Coconino County. Although only one bird was initially reported, two were later confirmed to be present.

Stocky shorebird with short bill, short orange legs, white throat patch, black breast, brown head, brownish/rufous coloring in wings, and white belly and undertail coverts.
