Submitting Reports of Sketch Details Species to the
Editors of North American Birds
Submitting photos to AZFO does not
constitute reporting a rare bird for consideration as an
official record. To ensure that a record becomes
official, details or photos of Sketch Details Species (click here for list)
should be sent to the editors of North American Birds.
Most rare birds are under documented and subsequent
observers of a rarity are always encouraged to submit
reports and additional photos, especially for birds that
are challenging to identify.
Sketch Details Species are
those considered rare or casual but usually have had at
least forty state records. The committee and North
American Birds editors feel that at least minimal
(sketch) details are requested to be turned in with the
details of the sighting in order for the sighting to be
included in the NAB seasonal report and for that
sighting to be considered "official" with regard to the
records keeping for the state.
Sketch details should include a
photo or brief description of the bird, the
circumstances surrounding the sighting (date, time,
lighting conditions, distance to bird etc.). Sketch
details can be sent to the NAB regional editors:
