Submitting Reports of Sketch Details Species to the Editors of North American Birds

Submitting photos to AZFO does not constitute reporting a rare bird for consideration as an official record. To ensure that a record becomes official, details or photos of Sketch Details Species (click here for list) should be sent to the editors of North American Birds.  Most rare birds are under documented and subsequent observers of a rarity are always encouraged to submit reports and additional photos, especially for birds that are challenging to identify.

Sketch Details Species are those considered rare or casual but usually have had at least forty state records. The committee and North American Birds editors feel that at least minimal (sketch) details are requested to be turned in with the details of the sighting in order for the sighting to be included in the NAB seasonal report and for that sighting to be considered "official" with regard to the records keeping for the state.

Sketch details should include a photo or brief description of the bird, the circumstances surrounding the sighting (date, time, lighting conditions, distance to bird etc.). Sketch details can be sent to the NAB regional editors:
