White-eared Hummingbird (Hylocharis leucotis), Madera Canyon, Santa Cruz County

White-eared Hummingbird is an Arizona Bird Committee sketch details species and is considered a rare summer resident of pine-oak and riparian woodland of high mountain canyons in SE AZ. Most recent records are from the Huachuca and Chiricahua Mts; it is seen much less commonly in the Santa Rita Mts and very rarely to the Catalina and Pinaleno Mts. This male was found in Madera Canyon, Santa Rita Mts, by Diana Davis and Joe Gebler on April 25, 2006.
