Join the Global Big Day in Arizona!

Hundreds of Arizona birders will be out in the field on Saturday 14 May counting birds for the second annual Global Big Day in Arizona. For the previous dozen years we've coordinated the North American Migration Count (NAMC) in Arizona, but that survey is no longer coordinated nationally and eBird's launching of the Global Big Day offers a great opportunity for us to build on what we've accomplished and make our statewide count part of a broader, national, even international effort.  In Arizona, the count is coordinated by Arizona Field Ornithologists, and is supported by local Audubon Societies, local bird clubs, and other interested organizations.

The purpose of the Global Big Day in Arizona, like the NAMC, is to obtain a “snapshot” of the progress and “shape” of spring migration, gather information on the abundance and distribution of each species, and to have fun. The effort is organized on a county basis. The final tallies will be posted on eBird. If you'd like to participate please contact one of the county coordinators listed here.
